Make mashed potatoes using your favorite recipe (or alternately use 20 oz refrigerated mashed potatoes such as Simply Potatoes Brand). We like to cook them with the skins on and keep them stiff. Add butter, half and half, salt and pepper.
Cook the beef in a 12” skillet until brown and crumbly. Add onion while cooking. Once the hamburger is cooked thoroughly add the ketchup, Worcestershire and garlic.
Combine the bouillon cube and water in a 1-cup glass measure. Microwave 1 minute on high to dissolve. Stir the cornstarch briskly into the bouillon until well blended. Pour the cornstarch mixture into the skillet and stir well. Continue to simmer, stirring occasionally.
Stir the sour cream into the thickened meat mixture. Spoon the potatoes over the beef mixture, spreading to the edges of the skillet. Serve with shredded cheese allowing diners to add their own.
